GTX Filters-X Series Multicoated-Protector
Our Protector filters can be left on the lens in all situations. They are optically pure and will not alter color rendition.
Using a UV filter has become common practive to prevent damage to the surface of the lens, or to the metal edges of the lens if the lens should become hit by another object.
Historically, photographic films were quite sensitive to UV light, which caused haziness or fogginess, and in color films a bluish hue. Therefore, as a standard, a UV (blocking) filter was used, transparent to visible light while filtering out shorter ultraviolet wavelengths.
However, newer photographic film and digital cameras are highly insensitive to UV wavelengths. In fact most digital sensors have a UV filter built into the camera. Ths adding a UV filter as a simple protector filter can slighty alter the image.
Our protector filters are designed for digital camera. They have 16 layers of multicoating to prevent unwanted reflections. And they are neutral in terms of color. Using a protector filter instead of an UV filter, for digital cameras, has become widely accepted, and provides the protection desired without having any effect on color.
